The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Oslo wishes to inform that it no longer processes and issues machine-readable passports.

However, the Embassy grants ONLY a one-time, one (1) year extension to individuals who possess such passports free of charge. For the avoidance of doubt, holders of machine-readable passports who wish to take advantage of the one-year extension are not required to pay any fee.

ACCORDINGLY, THE EMBASSY WISHES TO APPEAL TO APPLICANTS NOT TO MAKE PAYMENT INTO THE EMBASSY’S ACCOUNT WHEN APPLYING FOR THE ONE-YEAR EXTENSION. THE EMBASSY WILL NO LONGER BE IN A POSITION TO REFUND THE AMOUNT PAID BY APPLICANTS.

Saturday, 6^th March, 2021 marked the 64^th Independence Day of the Republic of Ghana. The day Ghana freed itself from the shackles of colonialism and imperialism becoming the first nation in colonial Africa to gain independence.

The Day is usually marked in Ghana, in our Diplomatic Missions and Consulates and among the several Ghanaian Diaspora across the globe with pomp and pageantry. However, due to national restrictions on Covid-19, the Embassy was not able to hold a physical celebration to mark the Day.

Instead, the Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to the Kingdom of Norway with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Finland and Iceland delivered virtual remarks to the various Ghanaian Associations/Union in Norway, Finland and Iceland to mark the occasion.

The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Oslo wishes to inform the Ghanaian community in Norway that machine-readable passport booklets are gradually being phased out by the Government of the Republic of Ghana and will be replaced with only biometric passport booklets.

THE EMBASSY WILL HENCEFORTH NOT BE ACCEPTING MACHINE-READABLE PASSPORT APPLICATIONS.

The Embassy intends to extend the validity of machine-readable passports by endorsing a one (1) year gratis stamp when such passports are submitted for renewal.

In line with the opening of Ghana’s borders by air effective Tuesday, 1^st September, 2020, the Embassy wishes to announce the resumption of visa services to Ghana with immediate effect. The public is therefore, kindly advised to take note of the revised working days and hours due to the Covid-19 pandemic:

• The Consular Section of the Embassy will continue to be opened on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays except on Ghanaian and Norwegian Public Holidays;
• The Consular Section will receive applications on consular days (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) from 10:00am to 2:00pm; and
• Issued visas and passports may be collected from Monday to Friday between 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

The public is advised to send in their applications via post to reduce person-to-person contact and exposure to the virus. Applicants are also requested to include in their applications a self-addressed, pre-paid and registered return envelope and avoid using the white “etikettlapp” from the Post Office as these expire the day after purchase and cannot be used to return your documents.

The General Public is also kindly requested to take note that, due to the Covid-19 pandemic the Embassy now closes at 3:00pm each day instead of the usual closing time of 4:00pm.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday, 30^th August, 2020 announced that the Kotoka International Airport will re-open and resume operations from Tuesday, 1^st September, 2020.

As part of the arrangements in re-opening of the airport, the following measures have been put in place to lower the importation and/or resurgence of the virus into the country:

1. Any passenger arriving in Ghana must be in possession of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result from an accredited laboratory in the country of origin. This test should have been done not more than seventy-two (72) hours before the scheduled departure from the country of origin and shown to the airlines during pre-boarding formalities;
2. Passengers disembarking from the aircraft must continue to wear their facial masks;
3. Each passenger will undergo a mandatory COVID-19 test at the airport terminal, at a fee of the equivalent of USD150.00 to be borne by the passenger. The test result will be available within thirty (30) minutes;
4. Children under the ages of five (5) will not be required to undergo testing at the airport;
5. Passengers whose test results come out as positive for COVID-19 will be handled by the health authorities for further clinical assessment and management; and
6. Passengers whose test results come out as negative, can, thereupon, enter Ghana to go about their lawful activities. They are advised to continue to observe COVID-19 safety precautions during their stay in Ghana.
